Arthritis Symptoms

There are many different symptoms of arthritis, including inflammation, joint pain and limited movement of joints. Inflamed joints may be swollen, tender, red or warm to the touch. A protective capsule surrounds each joint and holds a lubricating fluid to aid in motion. Cartilage, a slippery smooth substance, covers most joints to assure an even, fluid motion of the joint. With joint arthritis, the cartilage may be damaged, narrowed and lost by a degenerative process or by inflammation making movement painful. After experiencing more than two weeks pain, stiffness, or swelling around a joint you should visit your doctor to find out if the symptoms you are suffering are arthritis symptoms. The best course of arthritis treatment depends on the type you have. Arthritis symptoms may arise suddenly (as in gout) or develop slowly over time.

Early signs of arthritis symptoms include difficulty functioning at home, work or at exercise due to stiffness or joint pain. Mundane chores such as getting out of bed in the morning, doing up buttons, sewing, writing, preparing meals, walking, climbing stairs, getting up from a chair or a toilet may all be impaired and be arthritis symptoms. The sooner you begin treatment to protect your joints and decrease the arthritis pain the better for your long-term comfort. Try to protect your joints by avoiding excess stress. Maintaining or achieving your ideal weight will also relieve pressure on your hips and knees.
